Kids on the Net Guidelines                         Miami-Dade Public Library System

Stay with you children while they are using the Internet.

Explore the wide range of available information and tell your children about sites you consider inappropriate or unsuitable.

Encourage them to use kid-friendly Web sites recommended by your child's school or library. Yahoo, which is a search engine for finding sites on the Web, has Yahooligans, a Web guide for children at  yahooligans.com

Just as with television, establish guidelines for your children on how much time they can spend online and what types of sites and games are appropriate for them to use.

Instruct your children never to give out personal information such as their name, address, password, telephone number or credit card number on line.

Teach them to be good online consumers and consider the source, date and accuracy of online information.
